i have developped an opensource sound and joystick interface (car,plane,jet, shooting, explode sounds with volume and speed + web url launcher) in freebasic for fly_earth_chung google earth plugin flight simulator.

runs like a single application (sound/joystick manager + web url launcher)
can run on a small netbook (12fps)

fly_earth_chung free google earth plugin flight simulator
fly_earth_chung is a free 3D flight / car / shoot simulator using google earth geplugin, javascript and freebasic. Explore the world in plane, car, feet or shoot other planes. Include a freebasic exe application for full featured sound interface and web launcher .can run on a small netbook (12fps).

note : if you havent installed google earth plugin yet, a popup menu will ask you to install it (follow instructions). (nothing else to install)
the first time you come to a place, there will be only a flat land, objects will appear progressively as datas are downloaded.(reserve about 1Go free disk space on c:/ drive)

pageup,N => accelerate
pagedown,B => decelerate
arrow keys => direction , num1/num3 => queue

J,K => cockpit change (plane,jet,plane3D,on/off)
control + arrow left/right => level of details (less/more)
M => borders and towns names (on/off)
